If you search "nasal strips" in Australia, you end up at one of two places: the Chemist Warehouse shelf, or a direct-to-consumer brand's website. Both are legitimate ways to buy. They just suit different situations, and the price-per-strip maths is not always what you would guess.
Disclosure first: Fluence sells nasal strips online, direct. We are one side of this comparison, so we have kept the other side's case honest and specific, and there is a whole section on when the pharmacy is simply the right call.
What nasal strips does Chemist Warehouse actually stock?
At the time of writing, the nasal strip and nasal dilator options typically available through Chemist Warehouse include:
- Breathe Right nasal strips (Haleon), in multiple variants and sizes, including 30-packs
- Betta Sleep nasal strips, a lower-priced strip option
- Mute nasal dilators (Rhinomed), which are not strips but reusable internal dilators worn inside the nostrils
Stock varies by store and the range changes, so treat this as a snapshot. What you will generally not find on the shelf: the newer Australian direct-to-consumer strip brands, including Fluence, RhinoGear, Nozey and GOAT, which sell primarily through their own websites.
How do you compare prices properly? Price per strip
Pack prices are noise. The only number that matters for a product you use nightly or per-session is price per strip: pack price divided by strip count.

Three honest observations about how this maths usually plays out:
- Pharmacy promotions matter. Chemist Warehouse runs aggressive discounts, and a discounted retail 30-pack can be genuinely cheap per strip. If you see a half-price promotion on a brand you like, that is a good day to stock up.
- Direct subscriptions are built to win the steady-state. At $19.99 a month for 30 strips, a Fluence subscription lands around 67 cents a strip, delivered, every month, without depending on catching a promotion.
- Reusables need per-use maths. Mute's dilators are reusable up to 10 times each per the manufacturer, so divide pack price by total uses, not units. Depending on price, that can be very competitive per use, in exchange for cleaning and a different in-nose format.
Also factor shipping: pharmacy purchases have none, and direct brands typically have free-shipping thresholds. Small orders online can quietly lose the maths to a $10 shipping fee.
When is Chemist Warehouse the right call?
Plenty of the time. Specifically:
- You want strips tonight. No online brand beats walking out of a store with the product. If tomorrow morning matters, go to the pharmacy today.
- You are congested from a cold and want advice. Pharmacists are qualified, free to talk to, and can tell you whether a strip, a saline rinse, or something else makes sense for your situation. That advice layer is the pharmacy's real advantage, and no direct-to-consumer checkout page replaces it.
- You are trialling the category. If you have never worn a strip, a small retail pack is a cheap way to find out whether you tolerate the sensation and the adhesive before committing to 30 or 60 strips of anything, including ours.
- You prefer trusted retail brands. Breathe Right has decades of history and Mute is sold through pharmacy retail channels across the country. If shelf presence is your trust signal, that is a fair way to choose.
When does buying direct online make more sense?
- You use strips regularly. Subscriptions remove both the restocking errand and the price volatility. Fluence's is $19.99 a month for 30 strips, cancellable anytime.
- You want a strip built for a specific job. The pharmacy shelf covers general congestion and snoring use. Purpose-built options, like sweat-resistant training strips with a 12hr+ hold, mostly live online. Does it matter which you choose, health-wise?
No. A given strip is the same product on a shelf or in a satchel. What matters is that you use whichever strip you buy correctly (clean, dry skin, correct placement) and that you understand what strips are: a drug-free, non-invasive mechanical aid for nasal airflow. They do not treat medical conditions, and they do not treat sleep apnoea.
That last point matters more than the shopping decision. If you are buying strips because of loud, chronic snoring, gasping at night, or breathing pauses someone has noticed, the right first stop is not Chemist Warehouse or any brand's website. Chemist Warehouse is the right call for same-day needs, cold and congestion advice, and low-cost category trials. Buying direct online is the right call for regular users, specialist strips and subscription economics. Run the price-per-strip maths on the day, count shipping, and ignore pack prices.
